THE ABILITY TO RELATE

Have you ever seen or heard a advert and think to yourself what are they trying to say or what is the point they're trying to make?Well some advertisers may want you to use your brain and think it out. The question is will a person in a rural area be able to understand what is really intended? this can lead to people being uninterested. These are some of the mistakes that many advertisers do because of ignoring the importance of doing proper research. It is vital that the targeted audience is known from the get go, it should also be clear to the person listening or watching the advert. It is best that your brands advertisements are simple and straight to the point but also rememberable because at the end of the day you want to win your potential consumers of your brand. Then you find adverts that are just offensive from the get go based on norms, beliefs or values.Advertisers should always keep in mind peoples backgrounds, something that may not be offensive to me may be offensive to another person.

  1. Yes, I agree with you. We should learn and respect other people in order for you to be respected....

  2. Indeed knowledge comes from learning, upcoming advertisers should take not of that as well as current people who are in the marketing industry.

  3. Advertisers need to put themselves in the shoes of people they are targeting to see whether the advert will appeal to them or not.

I agree with you when you say they must consider people's values and beliefs as to to offend them.

Well done dear, this is such a relevant comment hey

  4. Yes this is true but sometimes adverts turn to manipulate us and sell something that is not real what happens to people who do not understand the aim of that brand or concept?Thats why social media is is the best platform to launch a product because it is interactive and you get to decide or see there whether a product will sell or fail.

  5. thats so true, proper research can make a huge difference but some advertisers dont see the importance of it and we end up not knowing what they are selling us.

  6. Proper research is vital . It has been said that advertisements don’t work unless they actually talk about the product they’re selling. So whats the point when we dont understand what the ad is about

  7. Well said people. It's a predictable gamble, not a definite one. The goal is to sell (even junk) & if 80% of the customers will buy and like the advert, it's no use for them to worry about 20%.
There is always a primary target market and then secondary & tertiary...(i will explain more later).
Research is done and mostly done well...what you see was birthed by research. 1 wash fools you into buying Ariel because it speaks to your mind (it cleans "whites" better than others), Nike uses brand and super ability to sell through their adverts (you will almost feel like you are running faster), same goes for cosmetics and ladies fashion(it shapes the way you walk).
Advertisers don't have to bend to a culture when the aim is to create one... more later... Lekker Una!

  9. @Thobile, values and beliefs is what shapes us individuals so they are of huge importance and thank you.@philisiwe,They manipulate people so that they can profit and make money, I agree that social media is a great platform than just watching or listening to radio without having the ability to give your own feedback.

  10. @Angel, that is true, leading to that advertisement not being as effective as possible as they wanted it to be.@Toka, its really unfortunate because of the barrier of understanding the public wont be able to relate to it.

  11. @Tunde,well said but we need to bare in mind that not all brands are successful in advertising and getting that 80% mark. Yes a culture they trying to create but not at the expense of other people.@Boitshoko,True but things that suit us should not be left out as well, its a two way thing.

    1. advertisers should certainly put themselves in our shoes and test if really what they're advertising is of human-interest or not but it just goes back to ethics, what is proper to me might not be so to you.....

    2. True not everyone is bound to have the same interests or like the same things.

  12. Well I beg to differ. You have to consider that everyproduct is not directed to everyone it has its own market, so if apple realeses a new tablet, its obviously for technologically intellectual people and not for those in rural areas with no basic education. Thus a brand has to impress its market and most of the time its not every one.
